Misasa Onsen Kabuyu
Hot Spring Overview
Located in Misasa Town, Tohaku District, Tottori Prefecture, Kabuyu is a public bath house that serves as the birthplace of Misasa Onsen, boasting over 860 years of history. According to legend, in 1164 during the late Heian period, Okubo Samanosuke, a retainer of Minamoto no Yoshitomo, was on his way to visit Mitokusan Sanbutsuji Temple when he spared an old white wolf's life. That night, Myoken Daibosatsu appeared in his dream and revealed the location of a hot spring gushing from the roots (kabu) of an old camphor tree, giving Kabuyu its name. Known as one of the world's most concentrated radon springs, it is renowned for the potential hormesis effect that promotes metabolism and boosts immunity. The facility includes the public bath, a free foot bath, and a 24-hour drinking spring, making it beloved by both locals and tourists. The facility was renovated in 2018, refreshing its exterior, baths, and drinking spring area.
