Misasa Onsen Kiya Ryokan
Hot Spring Overview
Kiya Ryokan is a long-established inn located on the banks of the Misasa River in Misasa Town, Tottori Prefecture, with a history of over 150 years since becoming a dedicated ryokan in 1868. The entire wooden two-and-three-story building, retaining the Edo-period merchant name Kiya, is registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property and preserves the original form of Taisho-era hot spring architecture. Misasa Onsen is renowned as one of the world's highest-concentration radon hot springs, and Kiya Ryokan owns multiple private sources of weakly radioactive sodium-chloride spring water. Since the Edo period it has been celebrated as an ashimoto-yushutsu (foot-emerging) bath inn, where guests can experience the ultimate form of bathing as fresh hot spring water naturally wells up directly from the bottom of the bathtub. With source temperatures of 56 to 80 degrees Celsius, the inn delivers 100% free-flowing spring water from its own sources.
