Ebino Shomyoji Onsen

Ebino Shomyoji Onsen is a single-group-per-day private rental retreat in the Yoshida Onsen district of Ebino City, Miyazaki Prefecture. Yoshida Onsen is said to have emerged during an eruption of the Kirishima volcanoes in 1554, making it the oldest hot spring district in Miyazaki with roughly 470 years of history. Local tradition holds that the warlord Shimazu Yoshihiro had wounded soldiers from the Battle of Kizakihara treated in these waters, and Saigo Takamori is said to have bathed here in 1869. The villa opened in 2025 as the first directly operated property of a hot-spring real estate venture, inheriting this ancient source.

The water is a sodium-calcium bicarbonate-sulfate-chloride spring, hypotonic and near neutral at pH 6.5, emerging at 38 degrees Celsius. Total dissolved solids reach roughly 4,954 mg per kilogram, including 390 mg/kg of free carbon dioxide and 1,934 mg/kg of bicarbonate ions, making it a genuine natural carbonated spring. Around 260 liters per minute flow from the property's own source directly into the tub with no heating, no dilution, no recirculation and no chlorination. At close to body temperature, the bath allows the long, weightless soak the Japanese call fukan-onyoku, and the water at the spout is also described as drinkable.

The bathing area is an indoor tub used privately by one group at a time, paired with three kinds of sauna: dry, mist and far-infrared. The lodging is a three-bedroom house sleeping up to ten guests, with a full kitchen, laundry and Wi-Fi. Both overnight stays and day-use bathing are by advance reservation only, with no walk-in bathing. Parking is available for up to eight cars.
