Ebino Kogen Onsen is a hot spring area located at an elevation of 1,200 meters on the Ebino Plateau within Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park in Ebino City, Miyazaki Prefecture. Surrounded by sacred peaks including Mount Karakuni, Mount Koshiki, and Mount Shiratori, it is embraced by the beautiful nature of Kirishima National Park, one of Japan's first designated national parks, truly deserving to be called a 'heavenly hot spring resort.'
The history of Ebino Kogen Onsen dates back to 1895 (Meiji 28), when a hot spring hut was already established. In 1959 (Showa 34), a municipal open-air bath was developed as the only natural hot spring on the Ebino Plateau, becoming beloved by many mountaineers and tourists. However, around 2005, the source temperature declined, and the municipal open-air bath was closed in March 2006. Currently, the main facility bearing the name Ebino Kogen Onsen is 'Ebino Kogen-so,' where visitors can enjoy natural flowing hot spring water.
The spring quality is sodium bicarbonate spring with a source temperature of 43.2°C. It is colorless, transparent, and characterized by its soft texture on the skin, effective for neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, sensitivity to cold, and fatigue recovery. At Ebino Kogen-so, guests can relax in the hot spring while viewing the magnificent scenery of the Kirishima mountain range. The views at sunset and the panoramic vista reaching Sakurajima on clear days are particularly spectacular.
Ebino Plateau is also known as a place to enjoy the changing expressions of nature through the four seasons: fresh greenery and Miyama-kirishima azaleas in spring, the coolness and rich greenery of the highland in summer, autumn foliage, and rime ice and frost in winter. The Ebino Kogen Eco-Museum Center offers opportunities to learn about Kirishima's nature and history, making it an ideal base for trekking and hiking.
Being located at 1,200 meters elevation, it offers comfortable and cool conditions even in summer. The hot spring is beloved by many as a place to heal tired bodies after mountain climbing or trekking, and to relax while enjoying the great nature of the Kirishima mountain range.
