Ukawa Onsen Yoshino no Sato

Ukawa Onsen Yoshino no Sato stands on a bluff overlooking the Sea of Japan in Kyuso, Tango-cho, Kyotango City, near the tip of the Tango Peninsula. The spring is drawn from 1,200 metres below ground, and the facility was the first hot spring establishment in the former town of Tango. It is sometimes listed under the wider spa name Tango Hanto Matsushima Onsen.

The water is officially described as a sodium sulphate, bicarbonate and chloride spring (hypotonic, alkaline, high-temperature). The source measures 42.2 degrees Celsius with a pH of 8.74 by glass electrode, and yields 66.7 litres per minute via a submersible pump. Listed indications include rheumatoid arthritis, lower back pain, neuralgia and general fatigue, with sensitivity to cold and dry skin cited for this spring type. The facility does not publish whether the water is heated, diluted, recirculated or chlorinated.

There are two bathhouses: Ryugu, facing the sea, and Kaguya, enclosed by bamboo groves. They alternate between men and women each day. Each offers warm and hot indoor tubs, an open-air bath, a sauna and a cold plunge. Day-use bathing costs 600 yen for adults and 400 yen for children, free for ages two and under. Opening hours are 11:00 to 21:00 from April to November and 12:00 to 21:00 from December to March, with last entry at 20:30. The site is closed on Thursdays and also has cottage-style lodging, a restaurant and a farm shop.
