Shiga Kogen Kumanoyu

Hot Spring Overview
A famous hot spring located at an altitude of 1,700 meters in Shiga Kogen, known for its nationally rare jade green (emerald green) sulfur spring. The source is drawn from the hotel's courtyard, boasting a private spring yielding 72 liters per minute. The spring quality is sulfur-containing calcium-sodium-bicarbonate-sulfate hot spring with a source temperature of 63°C and pH of 7.5, a slightly alkaline high-temperature spring. Water addition for temperature adjustment is minimized, providing quality water without heating, circulation, or disinfection. It became widely known through Sakuma Shozan, a Dutch studies scholar and Matsushiro Domain retainer in the late Edo period. The name 'Kumanoyu' (Bear's Hot Spring) originated from a legend of a injured bear cub soaking its wound in the water. It has been loved by many literary figures including the poet Yosano Akiko. The bathing facility has three baths - First Bath, Second Bath, and Third Bath - each with different temperatures. It offers many benefits including relief from neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, poor circulation, fatigue recovery, chronic skin diseases, and burns. This resort hot spring can be enjoyed year-round: fresh greenery, summer retreat, hiking, autumn foliage, and skiing in winter.
