Tosen Goshobo
Hot Spring Overview
Located in Arima-cho, Kita Ward, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, Tosen Goshobo is the oldest inn in Arima Onsen, founded in 1191 during the Kamakura period as 'Yuguchiya.' With over 800 years of history, the inn has hosted historical figures including Ashikaga Yoshimitsu and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Guests can enjoy Arima Onsen's renowned 'Kinsen' (golden spring) as 100% free-flowing source water. The spring quality is iron-containing sodium chloride strong salt spring with a salinity approximately 1.5 times that of seawater. The source temperature exceeds 90°C with a pH of around 6.6 (neutral high-temperature spring). The colorless transparent water transforms to its distinctive brownish-gold color as the iron content oxidizes upon contact with air, giving the 'Kinsen' its name. The main bath 'Kingozen' features a unique semi-open-air, semi-mixed bathing design where bathers can enjoy seasonal scenery. The spring offers high heat retention and moisturizing effects, with therapeutic benefits for blood circulation, neuralgia, joint pain, cold sensitivity, and skin conditions. The facility reflects a unified aesthetic concept by artist Kosuke Watanuki, and serves yamaga cuisine featuring seasonal ingredients from Hyogo Prefecture. Day-trip bathing is available at 2,175 yen per adult (plus 75 yen bathing tax).
