Kamigata Onsen Ikkyu
Hot Spring Overview
Kamigata Onsen Ikkyu is a day-trip hot spring bathhouse with a traditional Japanese-style building set amid the factories and warehouses of Torishima, in Osaka City's Konohana Ward. Located about a 10-minute drive from Universal Studios Japan (USJ), it operates as a neighborhood "town bathhouse" popular with both USJ visitors and local residents of the Konohana and Nishiyodogawa areas. It serves as the Osaka flagship of the Ikkyu group, which also runs a sister facility in Kyoto, and offers a free shuttle bus to and from Nishi-Kujo and Universal City stations, reflecting a location and operation geared toward both tourists and neighborhood use.
The water is classified as a simple hot spring (hypotonic, weakly alkaline, high-temperature type) with a pH of 8.06, a source temperature of 50.3°C, and a flow rate of roughly 760 liters per minute. The facility's signature feature is its no-dilution policy: the 50.3°C source water is passed through a double-structured heat exchanger with titanium-copper piping to bring it to a comfortable temperature without adding a drop of water, and overflow is fully drained rather than reused. A few tubs, such as the outdoor jar bath, receive the source water directly, but most of the main baths use circulation filtration and chlorine disinfection for hygiene management, making the overall supply a partially source-fed system. The water is colorless and clear with a notably smooth, mild feel on the skin, earning it a reputation as a "beauty bath."
The bathing areas are split into two zones, Kinoyu ("Wood Bath") and Ishinoyu ("Stone Bath"), which swap between men's and women's sides daily. Kinoyu features a hinoki-scented room with barrel baths and a cascading waterfall bath, while Ishinoyu offers rock-hewn tubs and a seated bath at controlled high, medium, and low temperatures; both wings include an open-air bath billed as one of the largest in the Kansai region, plus two types of sauna, a mist steam room and a dry heat room. The facility also houses a restaurant, a body-care and spa lounge, a barbershop, and free rest areas, though there are no private or family baths. It is open 10:00 PM to midnight daily, last entry 11:00 PM, closed on the third Tuesday of each month. Admission is 750 yen for adults and 400 yen for children on weekdays, 850 yen and 450 yen on weekends and holidays, with infants free; free parking is available for 150 cars.
