Azumino Shakunage no Yu

Azumino Shakunage no Yu is a day-use hot spring facility in Hotaka-Ariake, Azumino City, part of the Hotaka Onsen-kyo area at the foot of the Northern Alps near Mt. Tsubakuro. It opened on October 3, 2016. The bath water is piped in from the Nakabusa Gorge through the same supply line that serves other inns in the Hotaka hot spring area. A debris flow on August 8, 2026 washed away the supply pipe and the facility closed from August 10, but it reopened in September.

The water is an alkaline simple hot spring (alkaline, hypotonic, high-temperature) with a source temperature of 69.3 C, a pH of 8.6 and 0.4696 g/kg of dissolved solids. Listed benefits include relief from autonomic nervous instability, insomnia and depressive moods, as well as chronic muscle and joint pain, poor circulation and fatigue.

The open-air bath offers a hotter pool and a milder pool so bathers can alternate between the two. Two indoor baths, the Stone Bath (salt sauna and carbonated bath) and the Wood Bath (silk bath and far-infrared sauna), switch between men and women every day. A reservable family bath (2,000 yen per hour) and a restaurant are also on site. Admission is 600 yen for adults (junior high school and older) on weekdays, 700 yen on weekends and holidays, and 400 yen for elementary school children. It is open 9:30 to 21:30 (last entry 20:30) and closed on the first Wednesday of each month.
