Fujiya Farmhouse Inn (Shinhirayu Onsen)

Fujiya is a seven-room hot spring inn in the Ichie-ga-ne area of Shinhirayu Onsen, at the heart of the Okuhida onsen villages in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture. The building, well over a century old, is not a relocated folk house but an authentic farmhouse parlor (hyakusho-zashiki) that has served this spot for generations, with its original sunken hearth and massive beams. The inn is a member of the association of ryokan committed to disclosing genuine source-water information.

Fujiya owns two private hot spring sources: a 36.1C simple spring (pH 6.88) and an 89.2C clear, colorless sodium-bicarbonate spring (pH 8.3). The two are blended to a bathing temperature of 39-43C, and every tub is 100% free-flowing from the source with no added water, no reheating, no circulation and no chlorination.

Facilities include the all-hinoki indoor bath Iyashi-no-Yu, open-air rock baths, and two free private open-air baths in the garden, all available around the clock for overnight guests. Day-trip bathing runs from 10:00 to 15:00 for 500 yen, and stays with two meals start at 17,600 yen, featuring hearth-side country cuisine with the owner's pesticide-free vegetables and Hida beef.
