Kokumin Shukusha Furuiwayasou is a public inn located in the mountainous area of Kumakogen Town, Kamiukena District, Ehime Prefecture, standing alone along a national road beneath the towering rock formations of Furuiwaya, a nationally designated scenic spot. Opened in 1974, the inn sits at the geographical center of the Shikoku 88 Sacred Temples pilgrimage route and is popular among ohenro pilgrims. Furuiwaya Onsen has long been used as a therapeutic bathing site, featuring an alkaline simple cold mineral spring (hypotonic alkaline cold mineral spring) with a pH of 8.9. The source temperature is 13.8 degrees Celsius, requiring heating for bathing. The smooth, silky water is said to be effective for beautiful skin, rheumatism, fatigue recovery, and poor circulation. Guests can enjoy bathing in a natural stone bath while gazing at the magnificent Furuiwaya rock formations.
