Hotel Hoshifuru Village TENGU
Hot Spring Overview
Hotel Hoshifuru Village TENGU (formerly Tenguso) is a highland resort hotel in Tsuno-cho, Takaoka District, Kochi Prefecture, perched at roughly 1,400 meters on the Tengu Plateau of the Shikoku Karst. Originally opened in 1969 as the public lodge Tenguso, it underwent a full renovation in July 2021 and was reborn as Hoshifuru Village TENGU. Located at the eastern edge of the Shikoku Karst, one of Japan's three great karst landscapes, and at the base of Mount Tengu-no-mori (1,485 m), the hotel offers sweeping panoramic views of the Shikoku mountains and the distant Pacific Ocean, along with one of the most spectacular star-viewing skies in western Japan thanks to the absence of light pollution. With a planetarium, glass-ceiling stargazing rooms, and star-themed facilities, it has become nationally known as a stargazing resort. The large communal baths use source water drawn from the headwaters of the Shimanto River; while not a natural mineral hot spring under the Onsen Law, the heated bath offers an extraordinary setting where guests can soak while watching seas of cloud at sunrise or shooting stars at night.
