A one-inn mountain lodge located at approximately 2,000m elevation in Komoro City, Nagano Prefecture. Known as 'Ranpu no Yado Takamine Onsen' (Lamp Inn Takamine Hot Spring), member inn of the Japan Secret Hot Springs Association.\n\nMain feature is its location at high altitude of 2,000m, with the famous 'open-air bath above the clouds' offering panoramic views of the Asama mountain range and sea of clouds. The outdoor bath was handmade by the innkeeper, positioned overlooking a ravine with spectacular views.\n\nDuring winter (mid-November to late April), regular vehicle access is impossible due to snow, requiring snow vehicle transportation from Asama 2000 Ski Resort parking (by reservation, about 5-10 min). This snow vehicle experience itself has become a winter attraction.\n\nOperates year-round, popular as a base for skiers in winter and mountaineers in summer. Evening activities include stargazing sessions and nature observation.\n\nSpring quality is sulfur-containing calcium/sodium sulfate/bicarbonate spring, source temperature about 36°C, containing sulfur with slightly milky white color. Natural source flow. Benefits include diabetes, gout, constipation, sensitivity to cold, gallstones, arteriosclerosis, liver disease.
About 45 min by car from JR Sakudaira Station, or about 70 min by bus to Takamine Onsen stop. In winter (mid-Nov to late Apr), go to Asama 2000 Ski Resort parking by car/bus, then snow vehicle shuttle (by reservation, about 5-10 min).
