Sukawa Kōgen Onsen is a hot spring resort located at the 8th station of Mt. Kurikoma in Ichinoseki City, Iwate Prefecture, at an elevation of 1,126 meters.
It is said to have been discovered around 300 years ago and has a long history as a therapeutic hot spring (tōji).
The spring boasts an impressive discharge rate of 6,000 liters per minute, and the water is a strongly acidic, iron- and sulfur-rich sodium sulfate-chloride spring (pH 2.2), known for its effectiveness in relieving muscle pain, joint pain, and poor circulation.
The sole accommodation facility, also named Sukawa Kōgen Onsen, offers a variety of baths including:
the spacious indoor bath "Sukawa no Yu",
the medium-sized high-temperature bath "Reisen",
and the open-air bath "Dainichi-yu".
Additionally, about 100 meters from the inn, there's the "Oiran Bath", which uses natural geothermal steam for bathing.
The open-air bath is open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM, while the main indoor bath and medium-temperature bath are open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Please note that the facility is closed during the winter season, typically from November to April each year.

It takes about 80 minutes by car from either Ichinoseki I.C. or Tsukidate I.C..
Although the roads are well maintained, they are mountain roads, and the area is closed during the winter season, which makes access somewhat challenging.
Public transportation is only available during limited seasons.
Located at an elevation of 1,126 meters, surrounded by the rich natural beauty of Mt. Kurikoma, the area offers breathtaking scenery throughout the seasons, with autumn foliage being especially stunning.
Nestled on the slopes of Mt. Kurikoma, Sukawa Kōgen Onsen offers a truly natural hot spring experience, featuring strongly acidic, milky-white waters and the unique “Oiran Bath,” which utilizes natural geothermal steam.
However, it's worth noting that the facilities are fairly developed for tourism, so it may not feel as secluded as more remote hot springs.
Approximately 80 minutes by car from Ichinoseki I.C. on the Tohoku Expressway via National Route 342,
or 80 minutes from Tsukidate I.C. via National Route 398.
