A rare wild hot spring in Yuzawa City, Akita Prefecture, where the waterfall itself is a hot spring. Hot spring water emerging about 1km upstream mixes with stream water and falls dramatically from a 20-meter height. The waterfall basin and all flowing streams form a natural open-air bath, extremely rare nationwide.
Spring quality is acidic/carbon dioxide/iron(II)-chloride spring with pH 1.41, a hydrochloric acid type strong acidic spring. High acidity provides strong bactericidal effects, said to be effective for acne, athlete's foot, skin diseases, cuts, atopic dermatitis, and psoriasis vulgaris.
Bathing season is limited to summer from early July to mid-September, when stream water mixing makes the temperature suitable for bathing. Other times it's either too hot or too cold.
