Akinomiya Onsen Takanoyu Onsen
Hot Spring Overview
A hidden hot spring with 1,200 years of history, established in 1885 during the Meiji era. Legend has it that the spring was discovered by the Buddhist monk Gyoki 1,200 years ago, and was named Takanoyu (Hawk's Hot Spring) after a falconer and his hawk healed their wounds in its waters. Located deep in the mountains of Yuzawa City, Akita Prefecture, along the Yakunai River, this ryokan offers stunning gorge scenery and serene surroundings. The facility boasts 6 bathing areas with 11 different baths including a foot bath. Two indoor rotenburo (open-air baths) complement the spectacular riverside outdoor bath along the Yakunai River. The main bathhouse retains its original Meiji-era atmosphere with a unique 130cm deep standing bath where guests can fully immerse themselves in the crystal-clear sodium-chloride spring water. The source temperature is 73 degrees Celsius and is known for treating cuts, burns, and chronic skin conditions. A member of the Japan Association of Secluded Hot Springs, this wooden two-story inn features 8 rooms all facing the river. Please note that the facility closes during winter (late December to late March).
