Iya no Yado Kazuraya
Hot Spring Overview
Nestled in the mountain hamlet of Kanjo in Nishi-Iya Yamamura, Miyoshi City, Tokushima Prefecture, Kazuraya is a secluded inn in the heart of the Iya Valley — one of Japan''s three great hidden regions. Located just a 10-minute walk from the Iya Kazurabashi vine bridge, designated as an Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property, the inn offers an immersive experience of Iya''s pristine nature and the enduring legends of the Heike clan refugees. Situated at approximately 400 meters elevation in the mountains, guests can take in sweeping views of the Iya Gorge as it transforms through the seasons from guest rooms and the outdoor bath.
The spring water is classified as a simple sulfur cold mineral spring, sourced from mineral-rich water that seeps through the deep mountain rocks of Iya and heated for bathing. Although the source temperature falls below 25 degrees Celsius, requiring heating, the water is used at 100 percent concentration without dilution, producing a light and refreshing bathing sensation. The cleansing properties characteristic of sulfur springs help leave the skin feeling smooth and refreshed.
The pride of the inn is its panoramic outdoor bath built with locally quarried Iya blue stone, where guests can soak while gazing down into the gorge — a truly sublime experience. The indoor bath also features large windows framing the valley scenery. Meals are served around a traditional irori hearth and showcase authentic Iya countryside cuisine, including the local specialty dekomawashi (skewered tofu and potato dengaku), salt-grilled sweetfish and amego trout, pheasant hotpot, and handmade Iya soba noodles. With only 13 guest rooms, the inn delivers attentive, personalized hospitality. Bathing hours are 16:30 to 22:00 and 6:30 to 9:00. The hot spring facility is exclusively for overnight guests.
