Yume no Onsen
Hot Spring Overview
Yume no Onsen is a single-inn hot spring standing on the bank of the middle reaches of the Monobe River in Miyanokuchi, Tosayamada-cho, Kami City, Kochi Prefecture. It lies within the Ryugado Prefectural Natural Park, with views across the water to the wooded slopes opposite that change with the seasons. The inn opened in 1958 and has more than 65 years of history. Its name comes from Yumeno, the old name for this stretch of riverside, and it has drawn bathers seeking cure-taking stays since its founding.
The water is classified as a simple sulfur cold mineral spring (hypotonic, weakly alkaline cold mineral spring), a rarity in Kochi Prefecture where sulfur springs are uncommon. According to the official spring analysis of April 2019, the inn's own source on the property is drawn by pump from a bored well at 46 liters per minute, with a source temperature of 18.0 degrees Celsius and a pH of 7.8. The water is clear and colorless with a faint hydrogen sulfide odor, and its total dissolved content is 0.304 grams per kilogram. Listed indications specific to the spring type include atopic dermatitis, psoriasis vulgaris, chronic eczema, and epidermal suppuration, and bathers commonly note how smooth the skin feels afterward. As a cold spring below 25 degrees Celsius it must be warmed for bathing, and the inn does not publish whether it is diluted, recirculated, or chemically treated.
There are two bathing areas: a large communal bath overlooking the Monobe River and a private family bath available by reservation. Day-trip bathing runs from 10:00 to 21:00 with last admission at 20:00, priced at 850 yen for adults, 600 yen for elementary school children, and 350 yen for children aged three and over. The family bath costs 300 yen for 45 minutes plus the bathing fee, and is free for overnight guests. Accommodation comprises four Japanese-style rooms and two Western-style rooms, plus a glamping dome tent six meters across that opened in January 2023, with meals built around seasonal Tosa ingredients including the local sawachi platter. Parking accommodates 20 cars, five large buses, and 15 motorcycles.
