Asahidake Onsen Daisetsuzan Shirakabaso

Daisetsuzan Shirakabaso is a hot spring inn standing at about 1,150 m elevation in Asahidake Onsen, inside Daisetsuzan National Park in Higashikawa, Kamikawa District, Hokkaido. The springs here were found in 1914 by Keikichi Akutsu of Asahikawa, and the resort was called Yukomanbetsu Onsen until 1982. The inn opened in 1968, and the present building with its observation tower was rebuilt in 2000. It doubled as a youth hostel for decades until the end of March 2024, and now operates purely as an inn. It is a separate business with its own separate spring source from Yumoto Yukoman-so, the other inn in the same resort.

The water is a blend of the inn's own Shirakabaso Sources No. 1, 2 and 3, which emerge naturally at 130 litres per minute. It is a calcium-magnesium-sodium sulfate-chloride spring, 45.6°C at the source, pH 6.0, with 2.070 g/kg of total dissolved components, and runs clear and colourless. The open-air bath is 100% undiluted source water; the indoor bath has cold spring water added only to bring the temperature down. Neither bath is recirculated or chlorinated, with posted free residual chlorine of 0.00 ppm.

There is one indoor bath and one open-air bath ringed by large boulders, plus a dining hall, lounges and a shop open until 22:00. Day-trip bathing runs 13:00-20:00 at 800 yen per adult. Overnight rates with two meals start at 11,270 yen per person in a shared room and 25,350 yen in a Japanese-style room. The inn closes for several weeks each spring and autumn, and the dates change from year to year.
