Tateyama Murodo Sanso
Hot Spring Overview
Tateyama Murodo Sanso is a mountain lodge located at 2,450 meters above sea level on the Murodo Plateau along the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, about a 15-minute walk from the Murodo Bus Terminal. This site was once home to what is considered Japan's oldest mountain hut, the historic Murodo Hut, which has been designated as a National Important Cultural Property and is preserved right next to the lodge. The facility serves as a base for climbing the three peaks of Tateyama (Oyama, Onanjiyama, and Fujinooritate) and for exploring the Murodo Plateau.
The large bath is not a natural hot spring but uses heated water. Named the Grand Observation Bath, it offers panoramic views of Tateyama's main peaks — Oyama, Onanjiyama, and Fujinooritate. On clear days, guests can open the windows and bathe while gazing at a sky full of stars, an experience unique to this 2,450-meter elevation. The men's bath is on the 1st floor and the women's bath on the 2nd floor.
Guest rooms are Japanese-style tatami rooms of 7 or 10 tatami mats, with 37 rooms in total. Dinner and breakfast are served in set-meal format with unlimited rice and miso soup refills. The lodge features free Wi-Fi, a shop (6:00-21:00), a drying room, and vending machines. The operating season runs from mid-April to early November, with rates starting at 13,200 yen per person with two meals.
