Midagahara Hotel
Hot Spring Overview
Midagahara Hotel is a highland resort situated at 1,930 meters above sea level in the Midagahara area along the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. Built within the Class 1 Special Protection Zone of Chubu Sangaku National Park, the hotel was constructed under strict regulations to preserve the surrounding natural landscape. The Midagahara Plateau features an extensive wetland dotted with countless ponds called Gaki-no-ta (Devil's Rice Paddies), creating a unique alpine scenery.
The large public bath uses heated natural mountain water rather than hot spring water. However, the large glass windows offer spectacular views — sunsets sinking into a sea of clouds in the evening, a canopy of stars at night, and the majestic Dainichi Mountain Range bathed in morning light. Bathing in the crisp air at 1,930 meters elevation is a truly special experience.
The hotel offers various room types including Western-style twin and triple rooms, Japanese-style rooms, and Japanese-style suites. Restaurant Dainichi serves seasonal Japanese kaiseki cuisine with all-you-can-drink beverages. Daily activities include guided Midagahara Plateau walks (around 4 PM), slide presentations (around 8 PM), and stargazing sessions in clear weather. The hotel operates from mid-April to early November.
