Akame Onsen Kakure no Yu Taisenkaku

Akame Onsen Kakure no Yu Taisenkaku is a historic hot spring inn situated at the entrance of the Akame Valley in Nabari City, Mie Prefecture. Originally established in the early Meiji era as a teahouse serving pilgrims visiting the Akame 48 Waterfalls, the inn later struck a hot spring by drilling 1,000 meters underground during the Showa era, and has since welcomed visitors as 'Kakure no Yu' (Hidden Hot Spring). Located at the foot of the Akame Valley, where Iga ninja are said to have trained, the inn is just a 5-minute walk from the Akame 48 Waterfalls, designated as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls and Top 100 Forest Bathing Sites. The inn has been featured in the Michelin Guide.

The spring water is classified as an alkaline simple hot spring with a pH of 8.3 (mildly alkaline). The source temperature is 18.0 degrees Celsius, so the water is heated for bathing, with a flow rate of 15 liters per minute. Rich in metaboric acid and fluoride ions, the spring is officially recognized under Japan's Therapeutic Hot Spring Standards as a 'beautifying water.' The water has a distinctly smooth and moisturizing feel, with therapeutic indications including neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, frozen shoulder, chronic digestive disorders, cold sensitivity, and fatigue recovery.

The facility features two main bathhouses, Jonin no Yu and Kunoichi no Yu, which alternate between men and women daily. Outdoor baths include the men-only Hanzo no Yu and the women-only Kagero no Yu. Private open-air baths are also available: Shogetsu for two guests and Suiun for four guests. Day-trip bathing costs 1,200 yen for adults (with face towel) and 700 yen for children, with reception from 10:30 to 14:00. Overnight stays start from 18,150 yen per person with two meals, featuring cuisine made with local ingredients such as Iga beef.
