Uguisudani Onsen Takenoha
Hot Spring Overview
Uguisudani Onsen Takenoha is a secluded single-inn hot spring nestled in the hills of Isohara, Kitaibaraki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, not far from the scenic Izura coast. Surrounded by bamboo groves and a mountain stream, it has long been known as a hidden retreat and was formerly called Chikuyotei. The setting reflects a region blessed with both the sea and the mountains.
The spring, named Uguisudani Onsen, is a sodium chloride-bicarbonate spring that contains metaboric acid, valued for its antiseptic quality and benefits for the skin, and traditionally recommended for poor circulation, digestive ailments, and neuralgia. The water is served free-flowing from the source, letting bathers soak to the sound of wind through the bamboo and the murmur of the stream.
The inn offers a large indoor bath, an open-air bath, and a private family bath. Its cuisine is renowned for anglerfish (anko) hot pot and simmered kinki fish, along with Hitachi beef and fresh sashimi. Day visitors can use a meal-inclusive plan (5,400 yen per adult, two or more guests, evenings only, by reservation), while overnight stays typically include dinner and breakfast. Pickup from Isohara Station is available by prior arrangement.
