Yunosawa Kousen
Hot Spring Overview
Yunosawa Kousen, located in Hitachiomiya City in the Okukuji area of Ibaraki Prefecture, traces its origins to 1842 when ancestor Higashinoshin Igarashi fell from a watchtower and was injured. Following a prophetic dream, he bathed in the spring water of this land and made a complete recovery. The bathing business was established in 1854, boasting approximately 180 years of history as a therapeutic bathing destination. Currently operated by the 5th generation, it is Ibaraki Prefecture's only member inn of the Japan Association of Secluded Hot Spring Inns. The water quality is sodium-bicarbonate spring, long cherished as the 'hot spring that eliminates the need for doctors.' Although heated due to the cold spring source temperature of 15-18.4 degrees Celsius, it features a silky smooth texture and is renowned as a 'beauty spring' that leaves skin feeling smooth after bathing. This single-story inn sits within an 80,000 square meter grounds of oak and sawtooth oak forest. The owner-maintained walking trails offer seasonal enjoyment: wild vegetable picking and cherry blossoms in spring, firefly viewing in summer, autumn foliage and mushroom picking in fall, and snow-viewing baths in winter. Two types of baths are available: an open-air cypress bath and a rock bath, alternating between male and female use throughout the day.
