Onogawa Onsen Takasagoya
Hot Spring Overview
Takasagoya (Itsutsu no Kokoro no Yado Takasagoya) is a long-established ryokan in Onogawa Onsen, Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture. Onogawa Onsen is a nearly 1,200-year-old hot spring said to have been discovered in 836 by the poet Ono no Komachi while searching for her father, and later visited by the warlord Date Masamune. Takasagoya traces its history to before the Edo period.
The spring is a sulfur-bearing sodium-calcium chloride hot spring. The hot No. 4 source (77.6C, pH 6.9) and the cool No. 5 source (34.9C, pH 7.9) are blended according to season and weather and served as 100% free-flowing water without added water or heating. Rich in metasilicic acid, it is celebrated as a beauty-enhancing spring.
A renovation completed in October 2024 reduced the inn to five rooms, each with a private semi-open-air bath. Facilities include a large indoor and open-air bath, the private open-air bath Komachi no Yu, a sauna heated by hot spring water, and a stone-bed spa called Toki no Heya. Dinner features Yonezawa beef.
