A one-inn secret hot spring located at 1,050m elevation in the headwaters of the Mogami River on the north slope of the Azuma mountain range in Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture. One of the Yonezawa Eight Hot Springs, known as a member inn of the Japan Secret Hot Springs Association.
Established in 860 AD (Jōgan 2), legend says it was discovered by matagi (traditional hunters). The bath house was built in 1801 (Kyōwa 1).
The greatest feature is that it's a secret hot spring in the wilderness reached by walking down a mountain path for 20 minutes (30 minutes uphill on return) from the parking lot, crossing a suspension bridge. This walking access enhances the atmosphere and special feeling of a secret hot spring.
Spring quality is calcium-sulfate spring (gypsum hydrogen sulfide spring), boasting an abundant flow rate of 780 liters per minute. Famous for being effective for gastrointestinal issues, it has long been beloved by hot spring cure visitors. 100% natural source flow hot spring.
There's an open riverside bath along the Mogami River and an indoor bath with views of the famous Kaen Falls. A supreme healing space where you can bathe while listening to the mountain stream and waterfall sounds.
