Nakayamadaira Onsen Takuhide (also known as Unagi-yu no Yado Takushuu) is a traditional hot spring ryokan located in the Nakayamadaira area of the Naruko Hot Spring Resort in Osaki City, Miyagi Prefecture. A member of the Japanese Association of Secluded Hot Spring Inns (Nihon Hitou wo Mamoru Kai), the inn is renowned for its Unagi-yu (Eel Hot Spring), named for the exceptionally slippery, silky texture of its strongly alkaline (pH 9.1-9.4) sulfur-rich water. The sensation of bathing is described as being like grasping a live eel, with the water feeling as smooth as premium cosmetic lotion. The spring meets all three conditions for classification as a beauty skin hot spring: alkaline pH for cleansing, sulfur for whitening, and bicarbonate for smoothing. Fed by three private source springs (up to 100 degrees Celsius), all baths are 100% natural free-flowing with no dilution, heating, circulation, or disinfection. The facility offers 8 bathing areas including indoor baths, outdoor baths, and mixed-gender options. Located near the famous Naruko Gorge, the area is especially popular during the autumn foliage season. The 14-room inn serves kaiseki cuisine featuring local Miyagi ingredients including Sendai beef and seasonal mountain vegetables.
