Araki Kosen Ryokan
Hot Spring Overview
Araki Kosen Ryokan is a historic hot spring inn located in Yamada, Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture. Founded in 1827 (Bunsei 10) during the late Edo period, it is known as one of the Chichibu Nanayu (Seven Hot Springs of Chichibu) under the name Miyo-no-Yu. The inn originally prospered as a gateway lodge for pilgrims visiting Chichibu Fuda-sho Temple No. 4, Kinsho-ji, and has been passed down through nine generations over nearly 200 years.
The spring quality is simple sulfur cold mineral spring (hypotonic, alkaline, cold mineral spring) with a source temperature of approximately 14.8 degrees Celsius. With a pH of 9.24, the alkaline water has an exceptionally smooth texture reminiscent of egg whites, earning it the nickname Tamago-mizu (egg water) and a reputation as a beauty spring. The source water is heated for bathing, though guests can also immerse themselves in the 100% unheated cold mineral spring. The main bathhouse includes separate facilities for men and women, each equipped with an outdoor bath and sauna. A private bath made of granite (150 cm diameter) is available for 3,300 yen per hour. Four guest rooms with private outdoor baths are also offered. Day-trip bathing is available from 12:00 to 21:00 (last entry 20:00) at 900 yen for adults on weekdays. The spring is noted for therapeutic effects on neuralgia, rheumatism, gastrointestinal disorders, cold sensitivity, and injuries.
