Chichibu Onsen Yuno Yado Wadoh
Hot Spring Overview
Yuno Yado Wadoh is an inn built around Wado Kosen, the oldest of the Chichibu Seven Hot Springs, located in Kuroya, Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture. Standing near the Wado ruins — the legendary birthplace of Japan''s oldest currency, the Wado Kaichin (minted in 708 AD) — the spring has been in use since the era when Takeda Shingen developed the Wado copper mines. Long known as ''Yakushi-no-Yu'' (Healer''s Spring), the local people historically used the mineral water as eye drops and for treating cuts with remarkable efficacy.
The spring is classified as a mildly alkaline, low-tension cold mineral spring with a source temperature of 10.5 degrees Celsius and a pH of 7.7. The colorless, transparent, tasteless, and odorless water is said to be effective for neuralgia, rheumatism, sensitivity to cold, skin conditions, stress, and cuts. The flow rate is 3.5 liters per minute, and as a cold mineral spring, the water is heated before use.
The facility offers two distinct bathing areas: the rock bath ''Iwakagami,'' constructed with Chichibu serpentine stone, and the cypress bath ''Hiougi,'' crafted from 2,000-year-old ancient hinoki cypress. Each features both indoor and open-air baths. The baths alternate between men and women daily, allowing overnight guests to enjoy both. Bathing while viewing the Yokoze River is a highlight. A private bath ''Gumi'' and private bedrock bathing are also available. Day-trip bathing costs 1,000 yen for adults, available from 11:00 to 14:00.
