Shiroku Onsen Yatsugawakan
Hot Spring Overview
Shiroku Onsen Yatsugawakan is a long-established ryokan founded in 1930 (Showa 5), nestled in the village of Arakawa Shiroku in Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture. Located approximately 15 to 20 minutes on foot from Shiroku Station on the Chichibu Railway, the inn sits along the Yatsugawa Stream, a tributary of the Arakawa River, surrounded by the rich natural beauty of the Oku-Chichibu mountains. With over a century of history, the inn is known as a tranquil retreat offering scenic views of Chichibu''s mountains and pristine streams through all four seasons.
The spring water is a simple alkaline hot spring containing fluorine ions and metaboric acid, boasting a remarkably high pH of 10.02. The source temperature is 19.7 degrees Celsius, so the water is heated for bathing. Though generally colorless and transparent, it may appear slightly cloudy, and bathers notice a distinctive silky-smooth sensation on the skin. The water is renowned for its skin-beautifying properties and is said to be effective for neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, cold sensitivity, and fatigue recovery.
The inn features a large communal bath with both indoor and open-air sections, as well as complimentary private open-air baths for overnight guests. Bathing is available 24 hours a day, with a cleaning period starting at 9:40 AM. Guests can enjoy the sounds of Yatsugawa Stream while bathing amidst the natural scenery of each season. All 13 guest rooms are equipped with private bath and toilet facilities, accommodating 40 to 50 guests in total. Rates start from 18,500 to 22,500 yen per person per night with two meals (before tax). Since December 2023, the inn has become an accommodation-only facility and no longer accepts day-trip bathing visitors.
