Neboya Shima Bettei
Hot Spring Overview
Neboya Shima Bettei is an intimate 9-room hot spring inn nestled in a quiet fishing village in Ago-cho Koka, Shima City, Mie Prefecture, in the heart of the Ise-Shima region. The property possesses its own natural hot spring source called Shimanokuni Onsen Asanebo no Yu (Morning Sleeper Spring), which yields an abundant 100 tons of mineral water daily. The name Neboya derives from the Japanese word for sleeping in, reflecting the inn concept of a place where guests can luxuriate in unhurried mornings. Following a major renovation, the inn reopened on September 13, 2024, with 7 of its 9 rooms now featuring private open-air hot spring baths.
The spring water is classified as a sodium chloride and bicarbonate cold mineral spring with a neutral pH of 7.4. Although the source temperature is 18.6 degrees Celsius and requires heating, the water is rich in bicarbonate ions, producing a soft and gentle bathing experience renowned for its skin-smoothing and moisturizing properties. Therapeutic indications include neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, frozen shoulder, motor paralysis, cold sensitivity, and fatigue recovery.
The facility offers 5 private baths including Amanohikari-yu featuring natural rock, Toumi no Yu with a round ceramic tub, Hinoki-bi no Yu with cypress wood, and two family-sized indoor baths named Hamahimesaki and Kii-shiogiku. Guests can savor kaiseki cuisine prepared with fresh local seafood from Ise-Shima, and the expansive 2,000-tsubo garden provides an ideal setting for stargazing. Day-trip bathing is available from 12:00 to 17:00 at 2,200 yen for two guests for a 50-minute private bath session.
