Furusato no Yu (Miyakejima)

Furusato no Yu is a day-trip hot spring facility on a bluff along the western coast of Miyakejima Island, in the Ako district of Miyake Village, Tokyo. It opened in 1995 as the centerpiece bathhouse of the 'Furusato Experience Village' complex built by Miyake Village, but was forced to close for years after the island-wide evacuation triggered by the 2000 eruption of Mount Oyama. Following the lifting of the evacuation order in 2005, the facility reopened in June 2007 and remains the only hot spring on Miyakejima, cherished by both residents and visitors.

The spring is classified as a sodium chloride strong salt spring, drawn from a source measuring 43.5°C with a neutral pH of 6.5. A trace amount of dissolved iron gives the water an unusual brownish tint rarely seen in chloride springs, along with a distinctly salty taste and a strong warming effect that keeps bathers feeling warm long after leaving the bath.

The facility has one outdoor bath and two gender-separated indoor baths, the latter featuring large glass windows overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The outdoor bath offers unobstructed views of the sun setting over the horizon, drawing crowds especially around dusk. Hours run 11:00-21:00 from April to September and 11:00-20:00 from October to March, closed on Wednesdays (open daily in August). Admission is 500 yen for adults and 250 yen for children (ages 6-11).
