Jinata Hot Spring

Hot Spring Overview

Jinata Onsen is a true "hidden hot spring," located at the bottom of a long, steep staircase. The name "Jinata" means "ground hatchet," inspired by the dramatic landscape that looks as if the earth was split open with a blade.

The spring is a ferrous sulfur spring, giving the water a reddish-brown hue. Locals refer to it as the "Hot Spring for Internal Health," as it's believed to help with digestive issues, neuralgia, rheumatism, poor circulation, and gynecological conditions.

The bath sits right on the natural seaside rock formations, making for a raw and scenic bathing experience. Since the pools are affected by the tides, the temperature can vary—part of the fun is exploring the different pools to find one that suits you best.

Please be aware that the rocks can become extremely slippery due to mineral deposits, so watch your step carefully.

Swimwear is required for bathing.

Unique spring

Due to the challenging access from Tokyo and the wild, rugged nature of this seaside hot spring directly connected to the ocean, I would rate it a 4 out of 5 as a secluded onsen experience.

Swimwear is required, but please note that there are no changing facilities available.

During low tide, the water temperature can become extremely hot, so caution is advised.
