Hakata Onsen Ganso Motoyu
Hot Spring Overview
A public bathhouse known as the birthplace of Hakata Onsen, located in a residential area of Yokote, Minami Ward, Fukuoka City. In 1967, hot spring water gushed out when a well was dug next to a Jizo statue, and the bathhouse opened in 1969. It has been beloved by local residents for over 50 years. Despite being only about 15 minutes by car from Hakata Station, this valuable 'urban hot spring' offers authentic free-flowing source water. The water quality is sodium-calcium chloride spring (weakly alkaline, hypotonic, high-temperature spring) with a source temperature of about 49°C. The water is provided as 100% free-flowing source water without any dilution, resulting in characteristically hot water. Benefits include relief from neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, frozen shoulder, skin conditions, rheumatism, and chronic digestive diseases. Drinking the spring water is also possible and said to be effective for gastrointestinal problems. The bathtub is compact, fitting only 3-4 people, but its Showa-retro atmosphere is popular, and it serves as a gathering place for local regulars. The second floor has a free rest area with tatami mats, and the admission fee allows unlimited bathing. The exterior, which resembles a private home, adds to its charm.
