A historic hot spring inn located along the Inunaki River at the eastern foot of Inunaki Pass in Miyawaka City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The history of Wakita Onsen dates back to the Nara period, when it is said that Otomo no Tabito bathed here during his tenure at Dazaifu during the Tenpyo era. It was also recorded in the Chikuzen no Kuni Zoku Fudoki during the Edo period, and the Kuroda clan scholar Kaibara Ekiken visited this prestigious hot spring area, earning it the nickname 'Fukuoka's Inner Parlor.' The name 'Wakita' derives from hot water gushing from rice paddies (yu ga waku ta). The water quality is an alkaline simple hot spring sourced from 1,000 meters underground, with a pH of 10.0, known as a 'Beautiful Skin Hot Spring.' The colorless, transparent water contains sulfur and has a distinctive slippery feel, leaving skin smooth and silky after bathing. The premises feature 'Yunozen no Sato,' offering 9 unique outdoor baths for both men and women, including Kaguyahime no Yu, Kappa Tengoku, Shosuke no Yu, and Waterwheel Bath. Visitors can enjoy distinctive bathing experiences such as baths surrounded by 17 varieties of bamboo and a giant sake barrel bath. The facility also offers beautiful seasonal scenery with cherry blossoms in spring, fireflies in summer, autumn foliage, and snowy landscapes in winter.
