Borawazawa Onsen
Hot Spring Overview
Borawazawa Onsen is the oldest public hot spring bathhouse on Hachijojima Island, located next to Borawazawa fishing port in the southern part of the island. Established in 1978, it is managed by residents of the Sueyoshi district. Situated at approximately 5 meters above sea level near the coast, it has been traditionally used by fishermen and divers to warm up after coming out of the sea. The spring water is classified as calcium/sodium - hydrogen carbonate/chloride/sulfate hot spring, with a unique mineral composition different from other hot springs on Hachijojima. The source temperature is 40.5°C with a neutral pH of 7.4, and abundant flow rate of 150 liters per minute. It is 100% natural flowing spring water without any heating or dilution. The facility is a simple blue wooden hut, carefully maintained by local residents, and is free for anyone to use. It is open to tourists as well, offering a valuable opportunity to experience the hot spring culture of Hachijojima Island.
