Akagi Onsen Akagi Onsen Hotel

Hot Spring Overview
This inn stands in the Akagi Onsen district on the mid-slope of Mt. Akagi in Naegashima-machi, Maebashi, Gunma, at an elevation of about 900 meters. It calls itself an inn of cloudy hot spring water. Akagi Onsen has long been known as a place for hot spring cures. A stone statue of Yakushi carries an inscription dated 1467, and the lord of Maebashi is said to have had a bathhouse built here in 1689. Kunisada Chuji and Nitta Yoshisada are also said to have bathed here.
The source is called Niijima-no-yu, a calcium, magnesium and sodium hydrogen carbonate spring (neutral, hypotonic, hot) with a source temperature of 43 C, and it wells up naturally. The water is clear and colorless when it emerges but turns brownish when it meets the air. Mineral deposits form on the tubs and floors, and the water contains 211 mg of metasilicic acid. The private baths use free-flowing water.
The baths are four private baths (Momo, Ao, Ai and Ruri) and the semi-open-air baths in the guest rooms of the Tsubaki and Sakura annex suites. There is no large communal bath and no open-air bath. Staying guests can use the private baths free of charge without a reservation, for about 30 minutes each when one is free. Day-trip bathing is not offered.
