Itadome Onsen Abo Minshuku
Hot Spring Overview
Abo Minshuku is a small eight-room hot spring guesthouse in Itadome, a spa hamlet along the Asaishi River in Kuroishi City, Aomori Prefecture. Itadome is one of the four springs that make up the Kuroishi Onsen-kyo cluster, together with Nuruyu, Ochiai and Aoni, and all four have long served as therapeutic bathing retreats. Local tradition explains the place name: because river water mixed with the hot spring and made bathing impossible, villagers gathered wooden boards to dam the stream, and itadome literally means to stop the water with boards. A Tsugaru travel account from the Tenbun era already mentions the spring, so the source is believed to have been in use before the mid-sixteenth century. The guesthouse stands in the Miyashita district of the hamlet and accommodates up to 25 guests.
The water of Itadome is described as a calcium-sodium sulfate and chloride spring, and Kuroishi City tourism material highlights its high sulfate content as beneficial for the skin. According to material published by the Matsunoyu community centre, the spring field yields water at roughly 58 to 60 degrees Celsius and is classified as hypotonic and neutral. However, no facility-level data has been published for Abo Minshuku itself regarding its source temperature, pH, or whether the bath water is diluted, reheated, recirculated or chlorinated, so guests wishing to confirm these details should contact the inn directly.
Abo Minshuku takes overnight guests only and does not offer day-trip bathing; the bath is reserved for those staying at the inn. Rates start from 8,500 yen per person for one night with two meals, with 10 percent consumption tax and a 150 yen bathing tax added separately. Prices vary by day of the week, season and meal plan, so confirmation at the time of booking is advised. Parking is available, and the Kuroishi Tourism Association lists the guesthouse among the local inns that accept toji guests on extended therapeutic stays.
