Rendaiji Onsen Seiryuso
Hot Spring Overview
Seiryuso is a long-established Japanese-style inn on the Inogasawa River in Kouchi, Shimoda, Shizuoka Prefecture, about a five-minute walk from Rendaiji Station on the Izu Kyuko Line. Founded in 1937 (Showa 12), it has 23 guest rooms and several bathing facilities set within a garden of roughly 2,000 tsubo (about 6,600 square meters). Rendaiji Onsen lies inland from the coast of Shimoda and is known for quiet hot spring lodgings.
The water is a weakly alkaline simple spring drawn from three private sources. The main baths use free-flowing spring water with no heating and no added water, and the open-air baths, the reservable private bath, and the in-room open-air baths are also free-flowing. The water is soft and colorless, and its listed indications include neuralgia, muscle and joint pain, poor circulation, and fatigue.
The inn has two large baths, two open-air baths, and one private bath (1,620 yen for 50 minutes, reservation required). A natural hot spring pool using unprocessed spring water (about 30 degrees Celsius, open 8:00 to 22:00, free for guests, swimsuit rental 540 yen) sits in the middle of the garden, and a Finnish-style sauna is also available. The large baths and open-air baths are closed for cleaning from 11:00 to 14:00. Guests with tattoos are not admitted to the large baths, pool, or sauna. Check-in is at 14:00 and check-out at 11:00.
