Ryokan Nushiya is a historic inn with over 270 years of history, located in the Arifuku Onsen hot spring town in Gotsu City, Shimane Prefecture. Arifuku Onsen itself boasts more than 1,350 years of history, said to have been discovered during the Asuka period by the Buddhist sage Hodo Sennin, who traveled from India through China and Korea to Japan during the reign of Emperor Kotoku (645-654 CE). The retro hot spring town, with its inns and facilities lining stone-stepped slopes, is sometimes called the Ikaho of San''in, evoking a quiet mountainside atmosphere. Ryokan Nushiya occupies a spacious 3,000-tsubo (approximately 10,000 square meter) property featuring relocated traditional farmhouses converted into just 9 guest rooms. A 2021 renovation incorporated natural wood, ironwork, and indigo dyeing to create spaces where history and contemporary aesthetics merge.

The spring water is classified as an alkaline simple hot spring (hypotonic alkaline high-temperature spring) with a source temperature of 46.6-47.2 degrees Celsius and a pH of 9.2. The colorless, odorless, transparent water is soft on the skin and has been known since ancient times as a bijin-no-yu (beauty spring) for leaving skin smooth and supple. Therapeutic benefits include relief from neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, and frozen shoulder. The inn uses its own private source, and guests can enjoy the high-quality water in the main bath, open-air bath, and two private open-air baths.

In addition to the main bath and open-air bath, two private open-air baths named Sakura and Ishi are available free of charge. Some guest rooms also feature their own private open-air baths. The dining room Yamaterashi offers semi-private dining featuring seasonal creative kaiseki cuisine, Shimane wagyu charcoal-grilled kaiseki, and premium nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch) kaiseki using local seasonal ingredients. The lobby lounge offers self-service Japanese sake tasting, coffee, and herbal medicinal tea, with the bar counter open until 22:00. Accommodation rates start from 10,000 yen per person for room only and 24,750 yen for one night with two meals. Check-in is from 14:00 to 18:00, check-out at 10:00.
