Mitoya Fukatani Onsen Fukataniso

Mitoya Fukatani Onsen Fukataniso is a day-use hot spring tucked into the hills of Nebabessho, Mitoya, Unnan City, Shimane Prefecture. It was built by the former town of Mitoya with regional revitalization funds and opened on April 8, 1994. The facility lies about 12 km from central Unnan and roughly 4 km off the national road, and it is run in a hands-on, community-built spirit.

The spring source is about 200 meters from the building and rises from a depth of roughly 400 meters at 16.8 degrees Celsius. The water is a calcium sulfate cold mineral spring with a neutral pH of 7.3. It is warmed for bathing and turns a greenish, cloudy color. The bath is supplied with free-flowing spring water and is noted for neuralgia, muscle and joint pain, and poor circulation.

The bathhouse has separate men's and women's indoor baths. Each tub fits about three to four people, and there are three washing stations. Admission is 400 yen for adults, 200 yen for elementary and junior high students, and free for small children. It is open from 10:00 to 19:00 (last entry 18:15) and closed every Thursday. A tatami rest room, a small shop, and reservation-only bento boxes are also available.
