Shigira Ougon Onsen

Shigira Ougon (Golden) Onsen is a natural hot spring in Ueno, Miyakojima City, Okinawa, set within the roughly 140-hectare Shigira Seven Mile's Resort. Drilled in 2005, it is Japan's southernmost and westernmost natural hot spring and remains one of Miyako Island's signature bathing destinations. The word ougon (golden) refers to the facility's name and presentation, not to the color of the water itself.

According to its spring analysis, the water is a sodium chloride spring (hypotonic, weakly alkaline, high-temperature) with a pH of about 8.3 and a source temperature of roughly 49.8C, flowing at some 800 tons per day. The water is colorless and transparent when it emerges, with a saline taste and a very faint chlorine note. Its metaboric acid content exceeds regulatory levels, giving the water a soft, skin-friendly quality. The observation open-air bath combines flow-through and recirculation, while the garden open-air bath is filtered and recirculated.

The complex divides into a swimsuit-required jungle pool area (with a cave bath, cascade bath and lying-down bath) and nude bathing areas featuring open-air and sea-view observation baths. Women can also enjoy an amethyst sauna and a Mongolian rock-salt sauna, and the site includes a cafe, gym and massage services. Admission includes a bath towel and face towel, so visitors can come empty-handed.
