Iruka Onsen Hotel Seiryuso

Iruka Onsen Hotel Seiryuso is a hot spring accommodation situated on an elevated bank along the Kitayama River in Kiwa Town, Kumano City, Mie Prefecture, overlooking the scenic Dorokyo Gorge downstream. Iruka Onsen emerged in 1997 as the second hot spring source in Kiwa Town, boasting a more abundant water supply than the nearby Yunokuchi Onsen. Kiwa Town has a mining history spanning over 1,200 years — natural silver was presented to the Imperial Court in 703, and copper was supplied for the casting of the Great Buddha at Todai-ji Temple in 743. The region''s hot spring culture is deeply intertwined with this mining heritage.

The spring water is classified as an alkaline simple hot spring (low osmotic pressure, alkaline, high temperature) with a source temperature of 43.2 degrees Celsius and a flow rate of 300 to 320 liters per minute. The water is colorless and transparent with a faint hydrogen sulfide scent, and is known as a beautifying spring that leaves skin silky smooth. Therapeutic indications include neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, frozen shoulder, motor paralysis, joint stiffness, bruises, sprains, hemorrhoids, poor circulation, fatigue recovery, autonomic nervous system instability, insomnia, and depression. The source was switched to a new Iruka Onsen well in June 2024.

The facility features an indoor bath, an open-air bath called Yasuragi no Yu with panoramic views of the Kitayama River, and saunas for both men and women. All 27 guest rooms were renovated in 2016, including barrier-free accessible rooms. The restaurant Toran serves kaiseki cuisine featuring local Kishu ingredients such as Kumano free-range chicken and regional citrus fruits. The facility can accommodate up to 119 guests. Day-trip bathing is available at 700 yen for adults on weekdays and 1,000 yen on weekends and holidays.
