A wild hot spring located at approximately 1,156m elevation in the upper Kinugawa River area, Kawamata, Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture. Located in the Okukinugawa Onsen area, also called 'Ura Kattateno-yu.' Named for being located just upstream (behind) Kattateno Falls (20m drop).\n\nKattateno Falls is the source of Meotobuchi Onsen hot spring, with hot spring water flowing from the falls. The wild spring is on the opposite bank (right bank) from the hiking trail, easily found if you can cross to the other side.\n\nWater temperature is approximately 44°C, naturally flowing hot spring. Okukinugawa Onsen is known as a secret hot spring area in Nikko City, with nearby hot spring inns like Hacchou-no-yu.\n\nAccess: From Kinugawa Onsen Station on Tobu Kinugawa Line, take Nikko City bus to Meotobuchi bus stop (about 1 hour 35 min), then walk 15 min to Okukinu trail entrance, then 15 min on trail to Ura Kattateno-yu, total about 30 min walk.\n\n【Important Precautions】\n・Wild hot spring with no managed facilities, enter at own risk\n・No changing rooms\n・30-40 minute walk from Meotobuchi bus stop via hiking trail\n・Difficult access in winter due to snow\n・Bear habitat, bear bells recommended
From Kinugawa Onsen Station, take Nikko City bus to Meotobuchi bus stop (about 1 hour 35 min). From Meotobuchi, about 30 min walk via Okukinu trail (15 min to trail entrance, 15 min from entrance to hot spring).
