Fukiage Onsen Lakeside Inn Midoriso
Hot Spring Overview
Fukiage Onsen Midoriso is a historic hot spring inn established in 1912 (Meiji 45), situated on the shores of Midori Pond in Fukiage-cho, Hioki City, Kagoshima Prefecture. Known as a member of the Japan Association of Secluded Hot Spring Inns, this hot spring was beloved by the poet Saito Mokichi who called it 'Bath of the Gods' and made it his regular lodging. The inn features two different spring sources. The private spring source naturally flows from 70 meters underground on the premises and is used in the outdoor bath. It is colorless and transparent with an egg-like smell and slippery texture, classified as simple sulfur spring (low osmotic alkaline high-temperature spring) at 57.6C. The shared spring source Fukiage No.21 used in indoor and private baths is at 36.4C with pH 9.0, featuring nationally rare black hot spring deposits giving the water a dark transparent color. The unique appeal is enjoying two types of sulfur springs with different colors - white and black. All baths are 100% free-flowing natural spring water, renowned as beautifying waters. The tranquil lakeside setting surrounded by lush greenery offers bathing while enjoying seasonal scenery. Note: Closed for renovation since December 29, 2024. Reopening date undetermined. Withdrew from Japan Association of Secluded Hot Spring Inns as of December 31, 2024.
