Okuaso no Yado Yamanami

Hot Spring Overview

Yamanami is a small inn with a folk-craft atmosphere located in Tajiri, Ubuyama Village, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture, on the eastern outer rim of the Aso caldera at about 700 meters elevation. The main building is a renovated traditional house over 100 years old, set in a quiet grove surrounded by rural scenery. The inn owns a private hot spring source, Ubuyama Onsen, drilled in 2006 as part of a village revitalization project, drawing alkaline simple hot spring water from approximately 1,000 meters underground at 53 liters per minute. As a member of the Japan Secret Hot Springs Association (Hito wo Mamoru Kai), the inn offers only 10 guest rooms (two with private open-air baths) and is known for cuisine featuring local Aso akaushi beef and seasonal mountain ingredients. The water is pH 9.1 alkaline simple hot spring, colorless and nearly odorless, but has a silky texture famous for leaving skin smooth.
