Echizen Awara Onsen Tsuruya
Hot Spring Overview
Echizen Awara Onsen Tsuruya is a prestigious hot spring ryokan in Awara City, Fukui Prefecture, founded in 1884 (Meiji 17), just one year after the discovery of the Awara hot springs. The current main building was designed by renowned Osaka sukiya-style master carpenter Hirata Masaya and was completed during the devastating Awara Fire of 1956, a testament to the craftsman's dedication. Each of the 22 guest rooms features unique sukiya architectural details inspired by tea rooms and fine dining establishments, ensuring every visit offers new discoveries. The inn draws from three private hot spring sources on its grounds, delivering 100% free-flowing natural spring water at a source temperature of 80 degrees Celsius without any dilution, reheating, or recirculation. The sodium-calcium chloride spring water is colorless and transparent with a faint sulfur aroma. Guests can enjoy garden outdoor baths overlooking a beautifully maintained Japanese garden through the seasons, making this an refined retreat for discerning travelers.
