Shibu Onsen Nanakurinoyu (Seven-Remedy Bath)

Hot Spring Overview

The seventh of nine public bathhouses in Shibu Onsen, Yamanouchi Town, Nagano Prefecture. It was named 'Nanakuri no Yu' (Seven-Remedy Bath) from the legend that it cures seven ailments. It is also said that bathing seven times will completely cure illness. The water quality is sodium-calcium sulfate-chloride hot spring (hypotonic, neutral, high temperature) with a source temperature of 50.5°C and pH 7.5. It is said to be effective for traumatic injuries. A distinctive feature is that black mineral deposits sometimes form, and among the nine baths, this has the highest total mineral content, making it the most concentrated spring. Shibu Onsen is said to have been discovered about 1,300 years ago by the monk Gyoki, and the hot spring town retains its old-world charm with cobblestone streets. The public baths are exclusive to overnight guests who use keys borrowed from their ryokan. Since hot spring water from the source flows continuously, it is recommended to check the temperature before bathing.
