Tara Takezaki Onsen
Hot Spring Overview
Tara Takezaki Onsen is a hot spring area located around Takezaki Island along the western coast of the Ariake Sea in Tara Town, Fujitsu District, Saga Prefecture. The hot spring was first developed in 1972, with additional wells drilled in 1995 to expand the area. A dozen or so hot spring inns line the coast around Takezaki, a tombolo island in the Ariake Sea. The area encompasses three hot springs: Kamenoseto Onsen, Tara Takezaki Onsen, and Taradake Onsen, all drawing from sources approximately 1,300 meters underground. The water quality is sodium-bicarbonate and chloride spring at 45.5 degrees Celsius, with a daily output of 346 tons. The colorless, transparent water with a subtle salty taste is known for its skin-smoothing and moisturizing effects. Therapeutic benefits include relief for neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, frozen shoulder, chronic digestive disorders, sensitivity to cold, and fatigue recovery. When consumed, it is also said to be effective for gout, diabetes, and liver conditions. Tara Town is known as the town where you can see the pull of the moon, boasting Japan's largest tidal range in the Ariake Sea. Many inns feature observation outdoor baths with stunning views of this remarkable sea. The area is also celebrated for its Takezaki crab and winter oysters, prized delicacies of the Ariake Sea.
