Tsubame Onsen Hanabun is a traditional hot spring inn located at 1,180 meters elevation in Tsubame Onsen, Myoko City, Niigata Prefecture. Formerly known as 'Nakamuraya Ryokan' and 'Hotel Hanabun,' it now operates as 'Hitou Hanabun' or 'Gensen no Yu Hanabun.' Located at the deepest part of the Myoko Kogen hot spring area, it sits at the foot of Mt. Myoko, overlooking the Otagiri Gorge with spectacular views. It's a historic hot spring inn that has been used as a therapeutic bathing facility for over 100 years.
The hot spring is a calcium/sodium/magnesium-bicarbonate/sulfate/chloride spring with a source temperature of 44.5°C, pH 6.6, and a natural flow rate of 540 liters per minute. It's a white cloudy sulfur spring with 100% source water flow-through (no added water or heating), characterized by abundant yu-no-hana (mineral deposits). The bathing facilities include an indoor bath and an outdoor bath, with the outdoor bath offering panoramic views of Otagiri Gorge. Guests can enjoy the natural 'Triple Beauty Spring' unique to Tsubame Onsen in its pure form.
A major feature of Hanabun is its homemade 100% buckwheat soba noodles. Using buckwheat flour from Myoko, the inn serves handmade soba made with 100% buckwheat flour without any binding agents. Spring brings mountain vegetable dishes, while autumn is especially famous for its soba. Seasonal cuisine featuring local ingredients is available year-round.
Accommodation rates start from 14,700 yen per person per night with two meals (for 2 guests per room, tax included), offering reasonable pricing. Day-use bathing is available for 700 yen for adults and 300 yen for children. Check-in is at 15:00, check-out at 10:00. Located at the entrance of Tsubame Onsen, it offers views of Mt. Myoko and surrounding gorge landscapes.
The inn will temporarily close for renovations from December 1, 2025, and will operate with limited plans (breakfast-only stay plans) from January 15 to March 31, 2026, with normal operations resuming from April 2026 onwards. Access is by municipal bus 'Myoko Megurin' from Sekiyama Station (about 20 minutes), or by car from Myoko Kogen IC (about 30 minutes) or Nakago IC (about 20 minutes). Free parking is available. It's a quiet mountain inn where you can enjoy quality hot springs and soba while viewing the gorge.
